The Opportunity

The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining our financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. They will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, analysing financial data and providing reports to the Financial Controller. The role has no direct reports at present, although it may extend to line management responsibility as the team grows.

Key Responsibilities

· Ensuring timely and accurate preparation of monthly accounts, developing financial reporting for all stakeholders and acting as a finance business partner to the Executive Team.

· Preparation of financial statements to reflect the group’s financial position, including balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.

· Processing, reviewing and reconciling supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely payment in line with company policy.

· Raising and issuing accurate customer invoices and monitoring accounts receivable to ensure timely collection.

· Developing and managing budgets.

· Supporting the annual statutory audit, acting as a principal point of contact for the external auditors and preparing audit deliverables to the agreed timetable.

· Reviewing and testing internal financial controls, identifying and remediating control gaps to ensure accuracy and compliance.

· Analysing financial data, using ratios, trend and other techniques to identify areas for improvement.

· Commercial modelling for new product development.

· Preparing reporting packs and disclosure information for the private equity sponsor, to the required monthly and quarterly reporting timetable.

· Preparing lender and covenant compliance reporting, including covenant certificates and banking information requirements, to the timetables set out in the finance documents.

· Monitoring and forecasting working capital, including cash flow forecasting and management of the debtor and creditor cycles.

· Any other duties reasonably required, commensurate with the seniority of the role.

Key Requirements

· UK-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), with a current practising membership.

· Relevant post-qualification experience in a similar role, ideally gained in audit, transaction services, or a private equity-backed business.

· Working knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and group consolidation, including intercompany elimination and multi-entity reporting.

· Prior knowledge of Xero desirable.

· Strong interpersonal skills and experience of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders.

· Advanced Excel skills are essential.

· Experience using AI-powered productivity tools (such as Microsoft Copilot and Claude) to improve efficiency, automate routine tasks, analyse information, and support decision making.

What Success Looks like

First three months

· Purchase invoices, prepayments and accruals posted accurately and to the month-end timetable, without review corrections.

· Sales invoices raised accurately and issued by day 2 of the month-end timetable.

· Balance sheet reconciliations for all entities completed and reviewed monthly, with no unexplained ageing items.

· Effective management of credit control process ensuring aged debt is minimised.

First twelve months

· Full month-end close completed independently, with the Financial Controller reviewing at a high level rather than checking detail.

· Control gaps identified during the year documented and fixed, not carried into the next audit.

· Month-end reporting timetable reduced from 7 to 4 working days.

· Statutory audit completed to timetable, acting as main point of contact for the auditors, with no material audit adjustments.
